Awards and Scholarships

The following are awards and scholarships from the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) and the American Vascular Association (AVA), a foundation of SVS. The AVA sponsors a total of more than $250,000 in awards to aspiring and practicing vascular surgeons each year.

Society for Vascular Surgery Awards

  • Lifetime Achievement Award: The SVS Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest honor that the Society bestows on one of its members. Selection for this honor recognizes an individual’s outstanding and sustained contributions both to the profession and to SVS, as well as exemplary professional practice and leadership.
  • Medal for Innovation in Vascular Surgery: The SVS Medal for Innovation in Vascular Surgery honors individuals whose contribution has had a transforming impact on the practice or science of vascular surgery.
  • Clinical Research Seed Grants: In recognition of the growing importance of clinical investigation in vascular disease, SVS announces the Clinical Research Seed Grant program.

Health Policy Scholarship

  • Health Policy Scholarship: SVS and the American College of Surgeons offer an annual scholarship to subsidize attendance and participation in the Executive Leadership Program in Health Policy and Management at Brandeis University.

Women's Leadership Training Award

International Scholars Program

  • SVS International Scholars Program: Provides scholarships to qualified young vascular surgeons from countries other than the United States or Canada. The three scholarships, in the amount of $7,000 each, provide the scholars with an opportunity to participate in the Vascular Annual Meeting and to visit clinical, teaching and research activities in North America.

AVA/Lifeline Awards

  • Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award (K08): Jointly sponsored by the Lifeline Programs of the American Vascular Association and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute
