The Division of Vascular Surgery at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center has an unexpected opening for a vascular fellow starting July 1, 2009. This two-year ACGME-approved program, functioning since the 1960s, is dedicated to producing well-rounded vascular surgeons who will be comfortable with both endovascular and open surgery, vascular laboratory evaluation, advanced imaging modalities and clinical research.

The trainee will perform an adequate number of open and endovascular procedures, participate in several clinical trials and gain experience in urban and suburban outpatient settings, as well as dedicated endovascular suites. The two fellows rotate to two large teaching hospitals, one in Newark and one in a nearby suburb. The lovely communities surrounding Newark provide suitable opportunities for family life and recreational and cultural activities.

POSTED MARCH 2008

Division of Vascular Surgery, University of Florida College of Medicine - we have recently received notification from the Residency Review Committee that our application for a third Clinical Fellow was successfully approved effective 7/2008. We have had one Fellow per year (two total), but will now move to a scenario in which one Fellow alternates with two Fellows (three total). We are in the process of actively recruiting a Fellow to fill that slot (start date 7/2008). 

The Vascular Surgery Residency at the University of Florida is a fully accredited, two-year training program. The clinical experience is extremely rich in both endovascular and open surgical procedures. Indeed, our most recent graduating Fellow ranked in the 89th percentile nationwide for total case volume. The educational experience is equally strong and includes a two-year curriculum with a dedicated educational block on Monday afternoons. There is sufficient time within the training paradigm for clinical research and our most recent trainees have been particularly productive. 

Gainesville is a wonderful community that affords all the amenities associated with a major University including big time sports and cultural activities. Furthermore, both coasts are easily accessible and offer wonderful recreational opportunities.

POSTED APRIL 2007

The Mentored Clinical Scientist Program in Vascular Medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine is accepting applications for a July 1, 2007 start date.  This three-year clinical and research training program includes a comprehensive, multidisciplinary clinical core curriculum in vascular disease, to include inpatient and outpatient evaluation and management, exposure to open surgical and endovascular management, non-invasive vascular testing, and vascular imaging.  In the second year of training, a one-year research core curriculum will provide the trainee with didactic training to independently design and conduct clinical research.  This experience will culminate in a Masters in Science Degree in Health Sciences Research. The third year will be devoted to presentation and publication of research, and development of a K23 proposal.

The salary stipend in each of the three years of training is $75,000.  In each year, the trainee will be eligible for educational debt relief via the NIH Loan Repayment Program (www.lrp.NIH.gov) for to $35,000 per year in tax-free educational debt repayment.

One trainee will be recruited in July 2007, two trainees will begin July 2008, and two trainees will begin July 2009. Trainees eligible for this program include all physicians with an M.D. or D.O. degree who have completed residency training. The candidates must be citizens or non-citizen nationals of the United States of America or lawfully admitted to the United States of American for permanent residence.  All trainees are required to complete an application to the Wake Forest University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the Wake Forest University Vascular Medicine Training Program.  The applications must be accompanied by three letters of recommendation and a written personal statement defining the trainee’s career goals.
