Robert M. Zwolak, MD, PhD, Professor Of Surgery,Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, N.H., Elected SVS Vice President
CHICAGO (July 18, 2008) —
Dr. Robert M. Zwolak was elected 2008-2009 vice president of the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) during the Vascular Annual Meeting on June 6, 2008. Dr. Zwolak is professor of surgery in the vascular surgery department at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and the director of the Non-Invasive Vascular Laboratory at the Hitchcock Center, both in Lebanon, N.H. He is the section head of vascular surgery at the VA Medical Center in White River City, Vt.
“Dr. Zwolak’s contributions to the vascular surgery specialty are outstanding,” said Dr. G. Patrick Clagett, SVS president. “His expertise in health care policy issues is invaluable in today’s health care climate. He was instrumental in the recent passage of the SAAVE Act directing CMS to cover screening for beneficiaries at risk for death from abdominal aortic aneurysms. The society is honored to have him in the role of vice president.”
He is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Vascular Surgery and the Journal of Vascular Technology and has served as a guest reviewer for many scientific publications. Dr. Zwolak currently serves as a Governor of the American College of Surgeons is a past president of the New England Society for Vascular Surgery.
He has a special interest in health care policy issues as they relate to vascular surgery and has served for many years as the chair of the SVS Government Relations Committee, as well as the SVS advisor to the American Medical Association/Specialty Society Relative Value Update Committee. He has held many national appointments with the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and currently serves on their CMS Ambulatory Payment Category Panel.
Dr. Zwolak finished his vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle, Wash. and earned a PhD in Molecular Biology and Pathology from Albany Medical College in Albany, N.Y.
