Christopher D. Owens, MD, Associate Surgeon, Brigham And Women’s Hospital, Boston, Mass., Presented Award By Life Line Screening/American Vascular Association

CHICAGO (July 15, 2008) —

Dr. Christopher D. Owens was presented the Life Line Screening/American Vascular Association Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award (K23) at the 62nd Annual Meeting of the Society for Vascular Surgery on June 5, 2008. This award is presented cooperatively with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Owens is an associate surgeon in the division of vascular and endovascular surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and an instructor of surgery at Harvard Medical School, both in Boston, Mass. He also is a vascular surgeon at the West Roxbury Veterans Affairs Medical Center in West Roxbury, Mass. He was chosen for the Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award (K23) for his proposed research on endothelial function and peripheral vein bypass graft remodeling. This research will help to provide significant insights into the mechanisms underlying the progression of lower extremity bypass graft disease.

The Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award (K23) supports the career development of investigators who focus their research endeavors on patient-oriented research. It provides support for three to five years of supervised study and research.
