Melina R. Kibbe, MD, Northwestern University Feinberg School Of Medicine, Chicago, Elected To Distinguished Fellows Status,Society For Vascular Surgery

CHICAGO (June 18, 2008) —

Dr. Melina R. Kibbe was elected to distinguished fellow status of the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) at the 62nd Vascular Annual Meeting on June 5, 2008. She is an assistant professor of surgery at Northwestern University School of Medicine and the director of vascular surgery research at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. She also is the director of the vascular laboratory and the chief of vascular surgery at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago. Dr. Kibbe’s election was based upon her scholarly research activities, creative professional activities and broadly recognized teaching excellence.

“We are proud to include Dr. Kibbe as a distinguished fellow in the Society for Vascular Surgery,” said G. Patrick Clagett, MD, SVS president. “She exemplifies the qualities and commitment to excellence our membership subscribes to in vascular health care.”

Dr. Kibbe has published in over 50 peer-reviewed publications on both clinical and basic science research topics. She serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Surgical Research and is a reviewer for The Journal of Gene Medicine and Journal of Vascular Surgery. In 2005 and 2006 she was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award from the Department of Surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Kibbe also received the 2007 Gender Equity Award by the American Medical Women’s Association.

In addition to her dedication to the SVS, Dr. Kibbe is involved with the American College of Surgeons, Association for Academic Surgery, Association of Women Surgeons, Central Surgical Association, Midwestern Vascular Surgical Society and the Society of University Surgeons.
